1….2……3.
If I managed to grab your attention with the headline, I now have three seconds from the minute you started reading this to make you want to scroll down the page to read more.
You’re still here.
I am giving you a slow nod of my head and fist to chest, a smile and I am mumbling a soft: “Yes-I.”
(a greeting I absolutely adore from the Bobo Shanti’s around my way)
The reason you’re still here is because you felt a vibe.
This blog is about vibes, feel good, natural vibes. I am not trying to teach, preach, leech, leave that for another blog, another day, another moment, in this moment, we’re going to vibe.
What we need to celebrate today in this world is the ability to connect, to touch another life, when information is spreading around us, within us, about us… at a pace so fast and furious – Vin Diesel can’t even keep up. We are tuned into every voice, every word, every image, through audio, video, online and offline, that sometimes it is exhausting to simply be yourself when everyone’s self is in your face.
I am not sure if it is just me, but I am tired of seeing the same version of self everywhere. Everyone has a blog, a book, an online channel, a reality tv show, and celebrity gossip circulates around the globe at a rate so quickly, you have to wonder how it is possible that there is no cure for the common cold when a coldsore on Rhianna can become common news in the most remote parts of the world. Everyone says the same damn thing mannnnn… the same picture is everywhere, the same clothes. Where is the originality? The funk, the flavour?
Then – out of left field comes this burst of authenticity. A song, a photo, a poem, a brilliant point of view, and your faith in humanity is renewed.
The point is… people are connecting somehow, and in the centre of a ferocious tornado of information, there lies a calm collective awareness, an eye wide open. People are connecting, and sharing moments, giving each other online global high-fives across oceans and continents, without ever meeting in person. Blogs, discussion groups, forums, networks, these online gatherings are forming like tribes for every topic under the sun, with audiences strangely loyal and supportive of strangers to whom they willingly share their deepest secrets, documented with photos and videos.
Some people are worried that while the Web 2.0 revolution strengthens, that face-to-face time is weakening, and people are more comfortable revealing their lives to complete strangers than they are speaking to their own family, their neighbours, their community. I understand this concern, I even think it sometimes to myself when I enter a crowded room, crowded public transit, pass a stranger on the street and wonder what ever happened to saying “Good Morning” or “Good Afternoon”?
And then, just when the social awkwardness of being different is about to become unbearable, I come across a blog, a website, a flickr user, a twitter post (or is it a tweet?) , a news headline, a comment, that not only speaks to me but it has triggered conversation from all over the world, and I truly understand the quotation, “If you Build it, they will come.”
People are always looking to find themselves in everything they see and do. If you say how you truly feel, write what you truly mean, draw what you truly see, create what you dream of – people will find you, even when it you who feels lost, because there are millions out there who feel the same way you do…and they feel your vibe.
I have to admit, there are many blogs that I occasionally check in with, hoping to be inspired, hoping I will read something authentic. I am usually disappointed, yet oddly, still hopeful. Enter Florida native Janine Jackson, who left a comment on my blog that made me smile. She read one of my posts and commented that she couldn’t believe that no one had left a comment.
(She had just left a comment). She had subtly started the stream of comments that she had been looking for. If you build it…they will come.
Curious now to who this Janine character was… I of course decided to discreetly browse her blog, and this slow, smooth, lovely, refreshing breeze blew over my consciousness as I laid eyes on this:

And there it is, a Vibe.
Just like that.
Somehow, in some way, there is another human in whom I see myself, and who I had no idea even existed until now.
Dat’s a vibe.
While you think about what I just said you should try some avocado ice cream. Yummy.
